Today’s heat has us thinking about backyard swimming pools and pool houses. Check out three different HighCraft swimming pool projects – one with a two-story pool house, another with a rope swing and covered pavilion, and a third indoor-outdoor pool house our team is building right now.
Swimming Pool with Two-Story Pool House
After remodeling the kitchen and adding a new master bathroom in the main residence, we demolished the original garage to build the new pool house.
The all-season pool house, which doubles as a guest house, is connected to the main home by a breezeway.
Rather than build a sprawling ranch-style pool house, the two-story design minimizes the structure’s footprint, which maximizes the size of the pool and preserves much of the backyard.
The gray exterior paint distinguishes the pool house from the main home, which is blue. By adding gray as an accent color to the main home, and blue as an accent color to the pool house, the two living spaces are tied together into one cohesive design.
The inviting slide and diving board are favorite features of this family’s swimming pool, which was installed by our pool subcontractor.
The garage door opens up the kitchen and dining room to the outdoor seating area, making the pool house a fun indoor-outdoor space to entertain.
Inside the pool house, the floor is an epoxy-coated concrete for good traction and easy cleaning.
The open-concept layout includes a full kitchen, island seating and a dining room with wall-mounted television.
The first-floor shower, accessible from the pool area, is great for rinsing off bathing suits and chlorine.
And the adjacent bathroom has the same non-slip flooring to keep swimmers safe.
On the second floor, there’s a spacious flex room with a second bathroom. The large carpeted area, primarily used as a workout space, easily converts into a guest room.
The full bathroom offers a tub, second shower and added privacy.
We love these 8-inch by 48-inch earth tone tiles installed in the upstairs bath.
And the second-floor balcony provides a view of the sunsets above and the swimming pool below.
Swimming Pool with Rope Swing and Pavilion
In south Fort Collins, HighCraft built a backyard retreat that includes a swimming pool, outdoor dining room, lounge area, hot tub, and covered pavilion with fireplace and wall-mounted television.
The kids love their pool, which includes a rope swing on a large metal arm.
And a hot tub with a spillover water feature.
The same stone used to build the large planters …
… was also used in the covered pavilion for the fireplace and pillar bases …
… as well as the hot tub surround that doubles as seating.
The family enjoys warm, summer nights eating al fresco, playing outdoor chess, or relaxing in the open-air lounge next to the natural gas fire feature.

Swimming Pool with Indoor-Outdoor Pool House
On the north side of Loveland, we’re in the process of building a contemporary pool house with indoor-outdoor living areas, including 720-s.f. of interior space, 320-s.f. of covered patio, and 230-s.f. of storage.
The interior living space will include a full kitchen, pantry, living room, full bathroom, and a mudroom complete with utility sink, hooks for wet towels, and a stackable washer and dryer. On the back of the pool house will be an outdoor cedar shower, mechanical room, and storage for outdoor furniture and pool toys.
Under the covered patio, our team will add a built-in gas grill with stainless steel countertop, open-air lounge, and a see-through fireplace shared with the indoor living room. To fully integrate the indoor and outdoor living spaces, the living room walls will include retractable bifold doors.
A single garage door, similar to the ones shown above, will be installed above the bar seating. And ceiling mount heaters will keep guests comfortable on chilly nights.
We’ll be sure to post photos when this pool house is finished. Watch for retro wallpaper, showpiece lighting fixtures, and gorgeous tile. Until then, you can explore more outdoor living areas in our Exterior Spaces gallery.
