Today’s remodeling project spotlight features the before-and-after transformation of a kitchen and laundry room in southwest Fort Collins.
We all know that when you buy a previously owned home, you inherit the design choices made by the former owners. And while the kitchen and laundry room of this house were both clean and functional, they were also boring and a little dated, and the new homeowners were eager for a fresh look.
KITCHEN REMODEL
A cosmetic remodel is a great way to update your living space, and reflect your personal style, as you work within the existing layout of each room.
Cosmetic changes – such as updating cabinets, countertops, lighting, paint, appliances, flooring and tile – can breathe new life into a room, and improve its functionality, without knocking down walls.
HighCraft removed the peninsula and added an island for better flow in the kitchen. The central island creates a more efficient work triangle, it’s great for food prep, and it keeps guests flowing in and out of the kitchen. The dining table will tuck up next to the island for seating, and the wet bar offers a second sink for added convenience.
We removed the soffit to install ceiling-height cabinets, increasing storage and making the room appear larger. We also replaced, instead of relocated, appliances. This kept plumbing, venting, and electrical systems in their original locations, keeping remodeling costs down.
The homeowners’ style shines through the two-toned cabinets, glazed herringbone accent tile, stainless appliances and quartz countertops.
LAUNDRY ROOM REMODEL
Once again, soffits were removed to raise cabinets to ceiling height – this time in the laundry room. A new clothes rod and folding counter over the washer and dryer improve the functionality of the space.
The updated laundry room boasts added storage, and includes a built-in litter box cubby. The black painted shaker-front cabinets add interest and personality.
