We know it’s winter, and the thought of a spring or summer remodel might be just a gleam in your eye at this point. The remodeling bug usually hits homeowners as warm weather approaches. As we head into 2014, we’re here to say it’s never too early to start planning your remodel. Go for it!
There are so many good quotes about planning, including: “Failing to plan is planning to fail” by time-management guru Alan Lakein. And to paraphrase Dwight D. Eisenhower, “Plans are nothing. Planning is everything.” We need to go on record and say that Building Plans ARE pretty darn important (especially during HOA reviews), but you get the gist of what ol’ Ike was trying to say. That is, early and careful planning is well worth the investment of your time. It makes you a force to be reckoned with. It wins the day.
In fact, our experience confirms that successful remodels are the result of very thoughtful planning. Thorough preparation reduces errors, which can save you a boatload of time, energy and money along the way.
Winter is a great time to explore online idea galleries, visit showrooms, call contractors, ask questions, schedule a free consultation, discuss your project scope and determine a realistic start and completion date. Check out Dwight (Sailer, not Eisenhower) and Bryan’s December 28th Building Solutions column in the Coloradoan newspaper, and learn: 1) how much time you should devote to the planning process, and 2) key things you should achieve during pre-construction planning.
