Mountain Avenue is known for its historic architecture, including this beautiful two-story brick home built in 1905. When the house needed new windows, fencing, exterior trim, and a second-story deck, the homeowners called HighCraft.
Although the house is not Gothic Revival architecture, our fun-loving clients wanted to give the exterior a few gothic touches, including dark trim, metal hairpin fencing, and gargoyles at the front entry.
Today’s gallery showcases the finished exterior facelift, including a few photos of the house decorated for Halloween – the homeowners’ favorite holiday.

During the project, we replaced damaged soffits, corbels and corner fascia boards, and the decking and railings on the second-floor balcony.
We also replaced the old wooden gates, fence posts, and perimeter fencing with new custom metal gates, hairpin fencing, and posts anchored in stone bases and sturdy concrete piers.
Our team added new energy-efficient windows in the first-floor sunroom.
And the clients’ winged lion gargoyles stand sentry on original, locally quarried capstones.
The front door was handcrafted by Deines Custom Door to closely match an original door in the home’s foyer.
The new hardware has a Grande Victorian plate and Parthenon knob, with a matching deadbolt and doorbell in brass.
The team at Wellington-based Artistic Metal fabricated the custom metal fencing, including this manual gate at the front entry.
All wooden trim, siding, fascia, corbels and soffits are painted Iron Ore – a nearly black gray by Sherwin Williams.
We worked with Trails End Hardscapes to install pavers for the pathways, balcony decking, ground-level seating areas, and the two-track driveway leading from the street to the automatic metal gate.
Just past that gate is a covered porch (existing) …
… and the original detached garage.
We painted the home’s siding and garage door the same Iron Ore used on the rest of the trim, and we replaced the old cellar door with a custom cedar storm door with signature hardware and hinges.
New gutters and downspouts were painted, too.
To make the second-floor deck more functional, we installed a new waterproof electrical outlet – a rare find on the outside of many older homes.
WEST MOUNTAIN IS A TREAT ON HALLOWEEN
Mountain Avenue is one of the most popular streets in Fort Collins for trick-or-treating. If you plan to take your little ghosts and goblins door-to-door this year, consider stopping by our clients’ home in the 600 block of West Mountain.
The house is fully decked out in fun Halloween décor. Be sure to check out the mock headstones and spooky horse-drawn hearse.
